The mythical status of the hymen has caused far too much harm for far too long. Last spring, RFSU published an information booklet in Swedish intended to dispel some of the myths surrounding the hymen and virginity.
The booklet was a great success and flew off the shelves. There was clearly great demand for the Swedish version, and in response to numerous requests, RFSU has now had it translated into Arabic, English and Sorani.
“When we introduced a new term for the hymen in Swedish, slidkrans, many people commented that it was good to finally have a word that accurately described this body part. A lot of people also asked why we hadn’t had the booklet translated. Now we have,” said Åsa Regnér, RFSU secretary general.
The new term for the hymen in Arabic is تاج{اكليل}المهبل،,
The new term in English is vaginal corona.
In Sorani, the term is ئهڵقهی زێ
“After talking to organizations working in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights with people from non-Swedish ethnic backgrounds, we decided to start with these three langu¬ages. However, we aim to publish our booklet in other languages as well,” explained Ms Regnér.
The booklet describes what the female genitals look like and what the vaginal corona actually is. It also dispels many of the myths surrounding female sexuality and the misconceptions concerning the hymen and virginity. Etymologically, the term hymen comes from the Greek word for membrane. In Swedish, the hymen used to be called mödomshinna, which translates literally as “virginity membrane.” In fact, there is no brittle membrane, but rather multiple folds of mucous membrane. A vaginal corona, in other words.
“The vaginal corona is a permanent part of a woman’s body throughout her life. It doesn’t disappear after she first has sexual intercourse, and most women don’t bleed the first time,” said Ms Regnér.
“The myths surrounding the hymen were created to control women’s freedom and sexuality. The only way to counteract this is by disseminating knowledge.
Translating this booklet into languages spoken by large communities in Sweden is a step in the right direction. We also hope the booklet and the new term will find their way to other countries,” said Alán Ali, RFSU board member and in charge of two projects in Malmö tackling honour-related oppression.
RFSU’s vaginal corona booklet is available free of charge. It can be ordered by email from bestall@rfsu.se or downloaded (PDF).

Some of us have heard of the female condom, many may even know how to use one...but, there are still many women out there of all ages that have either never heard of them; or don't know how to use them. Maybe you don't know how to use one because you are embarassed to ask...
Well, here is a good video that explains the usage very well in a light and fun way. One thing I like about female condoms is that you can insert it up to 8 hours before having sex! No stopping to fumble around in the heat of the moment to put on a male condom...or take the chance that you will decide to not use the male condom.

While the article below is about workplace predator's we can all learn something from it. All predator's do this de-sensitizing until they have brainwashed their victim. I urge you all to click the link at the bottom and read the full post!

Desensitize (de·sen·si·tize): “To make insensitive or unresponsive to a sensitizing agent.”
Even people with strong personal boundaries and good awareness skills can be targets of predators if they don’t understand that some criminals are experts at desensitizing their prey with incredible patience.
Desensitizing is the slow, steady dismantling of your warning bells and red flags. You are made to see a harmless teddy bear, but the bear is actually a grizzly in teddy bear’s clothing.
For example, predators testing the waters at a workplace might take days or weeks to painstakingly follow a plan of action using repeated exposure to desensitize you like this:
✦ Sit uncomfortably close to you a few times until you get use to it
✦ Remove some lint from your clothing or fix your hair to get you comfortable with having your personal space invaded
✦ Bring publications to your side of the desk, then lean toward you to read them with you
✦ Place a hand on your shoulder or leg, gradually increasing the duration
✦ “Accidentally” touch your breast or drop something in your lap
✦ Get you alone and...Finish reading the Original Article
Energy drinks are meant to be edgy and cool, and drunk by young men. So PepsiCo Inc. decided to release an Apple iPhone application for its Amp Energy drink to appeal to guys out on the prowl.
Now the snack and beverage giant is facing a storm of criticism for "Amp Up Before You Score."
Joe Schram/WSJ
The app, released last Friday, purports to help men pick up any one of 24 types of women, such as the "sorority girl," "cougar," "rebound girl" or "punk rock girl." Users can choose the type of woman they have their eye on, then get coached on facts that might be useful, such as computing a carbon footprint to impress "the treehugger."
Suggested pick-up lines can be risqué. To pick up "the artist," the app recommends the following line: "You know the Mona Lisa has no eyebrows. I wonder what else she shaves."
The app then takes the coaching a step further, encouraging users who "score" to post details such as name, date and comments, for their pals via Facebook and Twitter.
Hundreds of people have criticized the app via Twitter, saying it contributes to the objectification of women. Adfreak.com, a sister site of trade publication AdWeek, asks, "Does anyone not dislike Amp's iPhone app?"
PepsiCo apologized in a Twitter feed, saying, "Our app tried 2 show the humorous lengths guys go 2 pick up women. We apologize if it's in bad taste & appreciate your feedback."
When asked if PepsiCo might pull the app, a spokesman said the company is looking at the situation and evaluating its options.
The spokesman said the application is meant for iPhone users who are older than 17. "The application was designed to entertain and appeal to AMP's target," the spokesman said. "We'll continue to monitor the feedback from all parties and act accordingly."
Amp—which like most other energy drinks is packed with caffeine, sugar, vitamins and amino acids—has tried to be daring with its advertising.
During the Super Bowl 2008, the brand aired a commercial that showed a fat man who, to start a stalled car, attaches jumper cables to his nipples and chugs the drink.
PepsiCo, based in Purchase, N.Y., like other consumer products companies, has invested heavily in social media and may relish the ruckus.
The app "is pretty edgy, but I guess its value is proven by the fact that we're talking about it," said John Sicher, editor and publisher of Beverage Digest, a trade publication.
Pepsi has been trying to reinvigorate sales of some of its top North American beverage brands.
The company has said it is pleased with makeovers introduced this year as part of its "Refresh Everything" campaign, including logo changes for its flagship Pepsi-Cola. But it ditched new packaging for Tropicana juice in February after consumers complained about the generic-looking carton that replaced the familiar picture of a straw in an orange.
Its makeover of Gatorade has gotten mixed reviews. The company said its "G" campaign has succeeded in deepening its relationship with hard-core athletes, but some consumers have said they are put off by the changed packaging.
Not everyone dislikes the Amp iPhone app. Boston dating coach Thomas Edwards, at theprofessionalwingman.com, gave the app his stamp of approval.
"This actually could be useful for someone you went on multiple dates with," he said, in a video message posted on his blog. A guy could pull up links to local vegan restaurants if he were dating a "treehugger" type, he noted.
Mr. Edwards said PepsiCo jumped the gun by apologizing so quickly.
"Stop being negative," he said, addressing people who are quick to pass judgment. "There's no harm done here."
